Run For Your Life
Temptation comes and goes like the tide. The only difference is it's not nearly as predictable. But do you ever have days when temptation hounds you like a mosquito in the ear?
And when you give in just a little, or just toy with the thought—anger, jealousy, lust, whatever the sin—it sticks to you like a barnacle. And then along comes temptation #2 and he sticks to you too. And then #3 and 4 until by the end of the day your souls is weighed down with ten tons of temptation, having exhausted you mentally, spiritually, and even physically.
Christ felt that burden on the cross in a way we cannot begin to comprehend. And right before He died He cried, "It is finished!" When I fail to run from temptation or when I do sin and try to make up for my sin by more sin, I'm refusing to believe that He really did pay the full price. But I've found something very helpful when temptation beats on the door of my heart. Run the moment it hits. Don't hesitate even for a second. You'll find that the temptation soon gives up and leaves frustrated. And then you go on in your day, rejoicing in the strength Christ provides.
