1 Kings 19 is not a story on how to deal with depression. It's way bigger.
It's about what God is doing through Elijah, one of the last few standing during the spiritual medieval ages of Israel's rebellion under the ancient witch Jezebel and her whiny husband.
Most fascinating about this story is its foreshadow of the ultimate prophet, Jesus Christ. The similarities between Elijah's life and Jesus' are striking. God doesn't need numbers and He doesn't need big muscles to get His work done. He likes to work in unconventional ways.
Elijah wanted God to show up in the big earthquake or the mountain-rending tornado. But instead, He shows up in the gentle blowing sound. Likewise, Jesus did not show up in a fighter jet, taking out the Romans by the thousands. He came into our life as a gentle carpetner growing up in ghetto-town Nazareth. This is how God brought us salvation. This is how God likes to do things.
